DownloadActor/Comedian Rob Riggle hosts the documentary. Known for his caring and selfless demeanor, Riggle has been a regular on Discovery Channel's SHARK WEEK and hosted SHARK AFTER DARK. Riggle is also known for his work as a correspondent on Comedy Central's The Daily Show from 2006 to 2008; as a cast member on NBC's series Saturday Night Live from 2004 to 2005; as the recurring character Gil Thorpe on the 20th Television sitcom Modern Family from 2013 to 2019; and for his comedic roles in films such as Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), The Hangover (2009), Furry Vengeance (2010), Larry Crowne (2011), Dumb and Dumber To (2014), Absolutely Anything (2015), Night School (2018), 12 Strong (2018), Midnight Sun (2018), and The War with Grandpa (2020) just to name a few. He has also co-starred in the Adult Swim comedy-action series NTSF:SD:SUV::. In 2012, he replaced Frank Caliendo for the comedy skit and prognostication portions of Fox NFL Sunday. Riggle currently co-hosts the miniature golf game show series Holey Moley with Joe Tessitore on ABC.
Co-Director/Producer Janice Overbeck has been involved with social issues for positive change for many years now. Her non-profit "JO Gives, Inc." has been donating charitable gifts like medical and dental supplies to people in Mexico, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, and Panama for years and sponsored the spay/neuter of thousands of dogs where overpopulation levels have reached all-time highs. She is also the owner of a real estate company.
Co-Director/Producer Jack Winch has been making impactful films since he started his production company, DreamPost Productions, in 1999. Choosing to stay mostly behind the scenes in his career, Jack has helped numerous other filmmakers complete their projects through his editing and cinematic skills. You can find other projects with Jack's involvement on platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, ESPN, NBC and more, but "Plastic Earth" is one of his personal favorites due to the topic at bay.
EXCLUSIVE: Gravitas Ventures has picked up North American rights to the environmental documentary Plastic Earth, hosted by Rob Riggle (Step Brothers, The Daily Show), and released it on all major streaming services on February 7, 2023.
The film written, directed and produced by Janice Overbeck and Jack Winch is billed as the first of its kind to cover the solutions and technologies being worked on to combat and eventually solve the plastic crisis that our world is facing. It follows the concerned mother, Overbeck, as she goes on a journey to learn the full story of this problem and to uncover what is happening in the background to solve it.
Plastic Earth is executive produced by Winch and Gunar Overbeck and co-produced by Scott Seydel. Its acquisition deal was negotiated by Nicholas Erickson on behalf of Taylor & Dodge and the filmmakers. Riggle is repped by Artists First, UTA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
